SERDE 2010, Aizpute, Latvia
During a two days long workshop the residents of Aizpute village were invited to work innovatively with their Soviet heritage, aronia berry that, as reported by the participants, caused for many locals bitter childhood memories. After many experimentations conducted with the help of food chemist Yannis Schlinacovich the workshop participants managed to turn aronia berry from something bitter and undesirable into - maybe to their surprise - astonishingly sweet health candy that could fuel entrepreneurial or economic-cultural imagination in the context of Latvia's economic depression and restore the interest towards the aronia that has great potential . Candylab was part of Herbologies/Foraging Network's activities and result of collaboration between me and Yannis Schlinacovich. |
