I Am Julian AssangeThe performance was based on a silent monologue written on a note pad by an anonymous character describing how he identified with Assange while finding many aspects of his and his supporters´ actions, public performance and rhetorics problematic and uneasy. This performance grew from the need to discuss about the Julian Assange´s supporters´ tolerance or even openness to forms of discourse that I found misogynist. During that time Assange was just reported of committing a non-consensual sex offence which was threatening his heroic image as a valiant whistleblower activist. The name of the piece, as well as the key visual element, a printed Assange mask was based on the very recent pro-Assange mass demonstration where his supporters identified with him. |
