I have been heavily involved most of my artistic career with this cultural center of which activities are based on the ideas of openness and collective decision making.
Hirvitalo - Center of Contemporary Art Pispala is situated in an old wooden house with historical value which has been totally neclected by its formal owner, the City of Tampere. in 2006, as an attempt to problematize the city´s urban planning politics and more generally the heavy gentrification of the Pispala area where the house lays as well as simply save the house from demolition, a group of activists and artists took the house and started to organize activities in it thus making it a spatial and cultural common. Since the initiation of the activity of Hirvitalo I have been co-curating and co-organizing hundreds of activities including exhibitions, peer-to-peer learning, workshops, seminars, presentations, screenings, performance and experimental music festivals, permacultural gardening, urban planning events and much more. |
