DIY CityDIY City provided resources also for city dwellers who one day blocked a street in order to protest the city planning that according to them neglected the ecological and pedestrians´perspectives. What a nice spontaneous symbiosis! Image copyright: Mikko Lipiäinen

Etsitään tilaa, Central Square, Tampere, Finland 2006
AVO, Finlayson area, Tampere, Finland 2006 Points of Departure for Creative Townsmanship, Metso Library, Tampere, Finland 2007 A two weeks long temporary installation in the center of Tampere
City provided tools and material to alter the city space immediately and engage with the urban environment in a creative way that could be defined something as "grassroots level urban planning". The installation consisted of two containers and a construction site hut stuffed with a variety of tools and recycled material for constructing structures, decoration and communication. All the materials, tools and spaces were open and free for all. Many spontaneous events were organized in or nearby the installation by the city dwellers including DIY monument workshop during which many innovative and fun public sculptures invaded the city center. DIY City was initiated by me and artist Jonne Kauko. |
